depends on whether you consider using a guitar that you haven't built from scratch to be cheating. A patch is an instrument, what you do with it is another matter...

i'll agree here. Great interpretation too.

Even when using patches by other people, i would bet that most ppl still tweak within the synth, so the original sound of the patch becomes yours anyway...!

Can anybody tell me how to install these? I can't seem to find the folder I need to put them in.

Either just put them in the normal Massive sounds folder or create your own and then find it in Massives browser.

Just do a search for any of the Massive sounds to find out where on yer computer they are stored, since you don't seem to know. Then just use that folder to place the new ksds. :joint:

Hope that helps.

I've got a question. How many patches that are made by other people do you use in your tracks? Isn't that kind of cheating?

Just wondering.

Let me ask you a question: how many preset of your softsnyths do you use? its the same thing. I'm fascinated with synthesis so its an important aspect of my music for me be to producing my sound as well as composing it. That not to say I don't use presets, but when I do its usually for a pad sound or a specific instrument. Presets are also a useful to for understand how certain sounds are created.

Here are some patches that I made. Really dirty. Tell me what you think. They are also in chronological order so, for all intents and purposes, they should get progressively better. Feedback please!

Edit: These are best in the C2-C4 Range. You will have to play with the octave to figure out what sounds good where.

mishmash.. I don't call that cheating.. I mean how many musicians hear someone play a piano/guitar chord and then alter it a bit to make their own sound? Same thing in my opinion.. as long as it doesn't sound exactly the same I don't see it as cheating.. It's about the creative process.. now if you just go in and use these presets and then put them over your own stuff then that would be cheating.. Guess in all its like asking a painter/artist if its cheating if he goes out side and looks at the mountains and trees he is drawing to incorporate into his/her painting.

Rather then saying its looking at the mountains and trees, I'd say

"have you made all those paints, brushes and canvas yourself"

God knows theres a lot of producers looking at exactly the same landscape nowadays.

I got some real life preset love over the weekend! Very humorous!

It's actually inspired me to make some more.

Here's the last batch for the nuskoolers:

Not cheating any more than a guitar player using a guitar someone else made. The creativity lies in how you use the sounds to make music, not how good you are at designing original patches in your instruments. Plus the best way to learn new synth techniques is to use presets and study what happens when you play with the stuff the person who made the preset used.

Here's a quick example of a zippy transformer-esque dnb sound:

http://www.mediafire.com/?b3o71ayligotbw7

Everyone always asks for the 'how to noisia' (everyone has for almost a decade now) and this preset is just the very basic start of that neuro sound, nothing too fancy.

Mess around with the 2 Macros, resample, uber compress etc, yalla finish ??? profit.
